The Top 10 Mice of All Time: No. 4… Pinky and the Brain
It’s not very often that a cartoon comes along that really does help to prove that they’re not simply for kids. Samurai Jack managed it (this is definitely one of my favourite shows ever), as did Ren and Stimpy, and of course the Simpsons and South Park too (there are a few others of course, but that’s enough for now!).
Pinky and the Brain was also one of these, but as it originally appeared on the Animaniacs show (before getting its own slot), it sometimes gets forgotten about.
They are lab mice, of course, a little bit altered, and they are thoroughly brilliant and intent on ruling the world. I guess you’d expect greatness of a show which Steven Spielberg had a big hand in. But even so, I know there are quite a few people out there that have never heard of it. And it’s a shame.
My friend Rob Hinchcliffe owns this massive model of the Brain, and he very kindly provided the picture. Apparently it’s generally not allowed a prime spot in his house, which I feel is a travesty. But I’m sure while Rob’s asleep the Brain is working out a way to get himself on display and take over the world.

He’s fab isn’t he – and massive. We stuck him in the window of the local bookshop, and the number of people who asked if it was for sale was amazing. You got yourself a bargain there
